Mixed Americano: rotating mixed-doubles padel
A Mixed Americano is an Americano where every pair is balanced — usually one man and one woman. Partners still change every round and every point still goes on your own total, but each match is a mixed-doubles match.

What is a Mixed Americano?
It's a padel Americano with one extra rule about who can partner whom. Players are split into two equal groups — men and women in a mixed-doubles night — and every pair takes one player from each. You still rotate partners, still play a fixed number of points per match, and still rank on your own running total.
The same idea works for any balance you want: club members and guests, coaches and students, or stronger and newer players. Keeping each pair balanced makes the matches closer and stops two strong players from teaming up.
How the rules work
- Split the roster into two equal groups, such as 4 men and 4 women.
- Every pair is mixed: one player from each group.
- Rotate partners every round, so over the event you partner as many different players from the other group as the rounds allow.
- Score like an Americano: a fixed total of points per match, and both partners bank their pair's points.
- Rank on individual totals — some clubs also crown a winner in each group.
How many players and courts you need
Each court holds two mixed pairs: two players from each group. That makes the ideal numbers 4 + 4 on 2 courts, 6 + 6 on 3 and 8 + 8 on 4. With 4 men and 4 women, each player can partner every player from the other group in four rounds.
| Players | Courts | Rounds to partner everyone once | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 + 2 | 1 | 2 | ≈ 25 min |
| 4 + 4 | 2 | 4 | ≈ 55 min |
| 6 + 6 | 3 | 6 | ≈ 1 h 20 |
| 8 + 8 | 4 | 8 | ≈ 1 h 45 |
Uneven groups — say 5 women and 3 men — don't fit a strict mixed rotation. Either play some same-gender pairs or run a standard Americano instead.
Who wins, and tie-breaks
Most total points wins, then point difference, then matches won — the same order as an Americano. Because every pair is balanced, the final table is usually closer than in an open Americano.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Mixed Americano in padel?
An Americano where each pair has one player from each of two groups — usually one man and one woman — and partners rotate every round.
How many players do you need for a Mixed Americano?
An equal number from each group, at least 2 + 2. The most popular size is 4 men and 4 women on 2 courts.
Is a Mixed Americano scored differently?
No. Each match is a fixed number of points and both partners keep their pair's points, exactly as in a standard Americano.
What if the numbers of men and women aren't equal?
A strict mixed rotation needs equal groups. With uneven numbers, allow a few same-gender pairs or switch to a standard Americano.
